Origin Story

Kootenay Kinetic Energy Turbines Inc. was incorporated in 2022 to advance Drew Rokeby-Thomas’ sustainable technology inventions of 30 years. He recognized the limits of conventional turbines (“HAWTS”) and was determined to remedy and overcome them. He invented a novel turbine, a double helical single column that is efficient and indifferent to direction of flow, gusts, or turbulence.

These qualities are crucial because they are the conditions in which HAWTs fail.

How “HAWTS” Fail

In wind, massive HAWT blades cantilever so far as to be stable only in mild winds. Their blades stretching as wide as a football field, ironically means they cannot withstand the vast wealth of wind power available.

Winds in southern Alberta wind farms measure about 750W/m2/yr wind mass. Within sight of them in the foothills of the Rockies, winds flow up to ten times that mass, 7,500 W/m2/yr. On the mountain tops, wind masses measure above 40,000 W/m2/yr, over 50 times more kinetic energy. Untouched.

It is the same and greater in rivers and tides. Water is over 800 times denser than air; it’s flow a much greater force. Practically, untapped.

Adapted to the great range of conditions these untapped flows entail, Aeaea turbines stand to harvest widely and deeply.

They can generate enough energy to replace most fossil fuel use.

And wait.

Aeaea function as highly efficient sails. While propelling watercraft by sail, they simultaneously generate electricity to power electric engine propellors, providing fully sustainable hybrid energy to shipping.

It’s infinitely renewable.

And high time.
